Riding Results

Altogether there where 57 compeditors from 20 different countries. Besides all the traditional European "horse countries" Japan, Russia, Algeria, USA and Kanada had sent a delegation.

6.Luxembourg (LUX)

The competition was clearly dominated by a very strong German team who managed to win all four gold medals: World Champion of Student Riding in the team ranking, individual combined (Michael Dahlkamp), individual dressage (Marc Fiege), and individual showjumping (also Michael Dahlkamp). The Polish team, which finally ranked second, also proofed to be hard to beat. Besides Germany they where the only ones to get all three riders into the second round in dressage and showjumping. As a rare guest on student riding competitions Japan sent some strong riders and surprised everybody with a very accurate team dressage performance.

Champions Individual Combined

The medals of the Individual Combined Champions of Student Riding could be awarded to student riders who have been active and successful at numerous student riding competitions in the past: Michael Dahlkamp (GER), Anniken Jegersberg (NOR) and Kaja Koczurowska (POL).

Detailed results of all compeditors are avaiable on separate pages for the individual and team rankings. A wealth of pictures from the final presentation ceremony can be accessed through the WUEC Picture Direcory.

Special Prizes

Bagger prize: Roman AUT

Of course, there were a lot of special prizes to be awarded. The most classical, the Bagger prize, divided into male and female Bagger, were won by people who made extraordinary efforts in making international relationships work. Although it was very hard to pick out those who had the most, best or hottest relationships, there were some favourites among the competitors and supporters. It is really a pity that the whole Spanish team had to go home before the presentation ceremony. But it was no surprise that the male Bagger prize was eventually awarded to Roman "Preserl" S. (AUT) who entered a Bagger competition for the first time. The female Bagger was awarded to Annika M. (SWE). More details about the aftermath of this prize can be read in another edition of WUEC NEWS. POL disguised

The Bacchus prize is always awarded to the person who is also known as the bar's best customer and it is of course more interesting if he or she can't cope with this situation as in the case of Sophie D. (GBR). Nevertheless she ranked third in dressage (picture on the right). This cogently shows that many student riders only expose their full potential if they are driven by the right fuel.

The Supporter's prize awards outstanding commitment and creativity of a team with a large number of supporters enriching the competition with a good atmosphere and entertaining ideas. In Berne, there was of course no country which could mobilize more supporters than Germany. The country with the funniest and most creative supporters, however, was Poland. Although they had to travel through half of Europe, they were ready to create a new dimension of being just spectators. Remember their "radiating", semi-transparent costumes at the party after the gala or the numerous room parties led by chef d'equipe, Mike. We consider the Supporters prize an important and encouraging clue towards varied and entertaining parties. There is more to a fun and thrilling party than drinking and not sleeping.

The Survival Cup was clearly awarded to Norway because no team could proof an equally astonishing endurance at the parties as "Heineken", Tonje and Johanna. The Norwegian girl-power is therefore a reliable factor in all disciplines: They finally also placed fourth in the team ranking.
